From Uxbridge Ontario, Singer/Songwriter and Recording Artist Grainne (pronounced Grawn-ya) was awarded Folk Artist Of The Year at the 2009 Durham Region Music Awards. She was also nominated for Female Vocalist of The Year and Album Of The Year. "It hasn't been an easy road" says the slight built woman, "but the many years of hard work are starting to pay off". Grainne grew up on a small farm about 45 minutes north of Toronto and was surrounded with music all her life. Irish parents and 4 older sibllings made for a very broad spectrum of musical influences, anything from Neil Young and AC/DC to Mozart and traditional Irish Reels passed through the ears, mind and soul of Grainne as she was growing up. Having been born into a large musical and artistic family, she is gifted with a natural ability as both a musician and visual artist.
Grainne's debut recording "All The Money", a 7 song EP produced by Chris "Lurch" Rudyk (The Guess Who, Amy Milan, Great Big Sea, Blackie and The Rodeo Kings), and released in January 2007, received rave reviews from Canada, the US and Europe. She has appeared on telelvision shows such as Roger's Cable 10 "Daytime", TV Cogeco's "In A Song", and live-to-air college radio shows such as CKLN's "All Over The Map" and CIUT's "Take 5" and "It's Alive" . Tracks from All The Money have received airplay on CBC, CIUT, CKLN, Radio FM Goud/Belgium, Crossroads Radio BRTO/Netherlands, Harris Radio/NYC, etc. Grainne won the hearts of those in her home town of Stouffville, Ontario (where she spent many years honing her craft) and receives continuous rotation on their local radio station,Whistle Radio (CIWS 102.7 FM).
Grainne is currently getting ready to head back into the studio to complete her latest recording project, which will consist of 11 original songs, 8 of which were produced by acclaimed producer Moe Berg (founding member of The Pursuit Of Happiness). The album features some of Canada's top notch talent; a couple of the lads from the platinum selling rock band Three Days Grace - Neil Sanderson (drums) and front man Adam Gontier (electric guitar), Juno Award winner and founding member of the Shuffle Demons - Richard Underhill (sax), Moe Berg (bass and electric guitar), and Ali Stead (a budding young guitarist from the up and coming all girl band Moraes Fate, formerly known as Dame). This eclectic mix of musicians transforms Grainne's rootsy songs and gives them a more rock edge than her previous CD. Release of the album is slated for the spring of 2010. Plans for touring solo with just an acoustic guitar are in the works, kicking off this summer in Ireland. Her sites are also set on short tours of Ontario, Eastern Canada and the north eastern US, starting this coming summer. Visit www.myspace.com/grainneryan for upcoming shows and tour dates.
