Have you noticed that EVERYTHING is a CRISIS these days?? Food crisis,
gas grisis, economic crisis, oil crisis, this crisis & that crisis
... Don't get me wrong, I know we really are having problems, but the
media loves misery. Is it any wonder that people are suffering from
axiety, depression, heart problems, mental illness, cancer etc. when
we're constantly being force fed bad news? Most of us are aware that
stress leads to the illnesses I listed above. We do have a crisis on
our hands ... it's called negativity & greed.
Hello Folks! Welcome to my first "Our Planet" blog post on Grainne.ca! This blog is not so much about the environment but about some cool people that are helping to save the lives of children. My friends Neil and Janin Sanderson (Three Days Grace) started a thing called HERBIE ROCKS, an on-line auction site that auctions off guitars donated by famous bands such as Nickelback and Seether, signed photos of star sports players and actors, etc. All the proceeds go to Operation Herbie, in support of the Herbie Fund at the Hospital for Sick Children. The Herbie Fund consists of a team of great people who find kids in less fortunate countries that need life saving operations, they bring those kids to Sick Kids Hospital where they can get the treatment they need, and thus save the lives of children all around the world. I had the honour of performing at the auction launch on May 3, 2008. I also donated one of my original paintings to be auctioned off. A great time was had by all and for such a worthy cause! Cheers to my friends Neil and Janin for coming up with such a brilliant idea and for doing a fantastic job!

This is some rather disturbing news and big phat wake up call !! Interesting timing with EARTH HOUR being only 56 hours away!

On FRIDAY April 18th, 2008, I will be performing at a fundraiser for Ubuntu Edmonton in beautiful downtown Cannington Ontario. Ubuntu Edmonton is an organization that is helping to rebuild the lives of widows and children who were victims of the Rwandan genocide. The evening starts at 7:00 PM and ends at 9:00 PM. The night will include the launch of a new website (Dreamyz), a preview screening of "One Dream", refreshments, prizes games and Rwandan crafts. I am honoured to be the musical entertainment for such an excellent and worthy cause. Tickets are $15.

Hey Folks ...
Just wanted to talk about the "Green"- ness of my new video Big Yellow Machines. It was filmed at The Foster Memorial Concert Series in Leaskdale Ontario. The Foster Memorial building uses no power for their concerts. As you could hear, if you watched the video, the acoustics at this particular venue are out of this world! So the only power that was used to make that video (as well as Brace Yourself) was the camera that filmed it and this ol' computer of mine, which makes it a more environmentally friendly video than most.
Now for the "Green" guitars ... I just bought a new acoustic guitar made by Art & Lutherie (Godin). It, believe it or not, is a "green" guitar. It was made in a small town in Quebec using 95% Canadian wood. The thing that makes it so enviro is fact that Art & Lutherie DO NOT CUT DOWN TREES to make their guitars, they use only trees that have already fallen on their own .... how COOL is THAT??!!
Let me know what you think of the new videos!

Over all, what's the most important thing right now?? Economic Growth? Or the health of our environment and the future of our planet? You decide.
